2011 Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program Implementation Program

Applications due July 8, 2011 and October 7, 2011

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County’s Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program is accepting applications for the 2011 Mini Grant, Matching Grant and Municipal Grant Programs. These grants are specifically for programs and projects in the Ashokan Watershed that help to implement Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Plan recommendations, or increase the knowledge and skills that municipal employees, elected officials, and watershed residents have in managing land and infrastructure that is either adjacent to, or that otherwise impacts streams in the watershed. $2 million was provided for the Implementation Fund and all funds for this program will be obligated by May 2012.

Eligible activities include: stream restoration projects, implementation of best management practices to improve water quality, watershed planning, flood hazard mitigation and floodplain protection, education programs, training and professional development, research, monitoring and assessment projects, aquatic and riparian habitat improvement, stream clean-ups and other community activities, and programs that increase and enhance public stream access.

  1. Mini Grants are for small projects, up to $10,000.
  2. Matching Grants are for up to up to 75% of the project cost or $100,000 whatever is less.
  3. Municipal grants are for projects sponsored by a watershed town, and can cover up to 90% of the cost of a project.

In addition, $200,000 has been made available specifically for stream access/recreation enhancement projects. Please see the link on the left for more information.
