Catskill Streams Research e-List

About the Catskill Streams Research e-List:
The Catskill Streams Research e-mail list was launched in 2010 to provide a forum for researchers and resource professionals to share research and data that are relevant to the understanding and management of the streams and riparian ecosystems in the Catskill region. It is administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County.
List members can use this list to discuss their current projects and their needs and priorities for future activities. It is also intended to be used to post and receive information about available resources and opportunities for collaboration including: publications, funding sources, conferences, meetings, and job and internship opportunities.
We particularly encourage the following topics of discussion:
- Infrastructure (as it interacts with streams, riparian areas and floodplains)
- Floodplain management and hazard mitigation
- Water quality and stormwater
- Wetlands and groundwater
- Stream stability, geomorphology and geology
- Aquatic habitat and aquatic invasives
- Forest habitat and invasives in the Catskill Region
- Weather and climate in the Catskill Region and its impact on streams and related ecosystems.
- Other research on human-stream interactions
e-List Policies
This email list is intended for professionals from government agencies, consulting firms, citizen groups, funding organizations and academic institutions with interest in research in the Ashokan Watershed’s streams. The list will be open to anyone who would like to be a member and any member may post content back to the list without moderation from the administrator. Members are asked to limit postings to the areas described above and to follow the rules outlined below. Questions about the e-list should be addressed to Beth Roessler (ear232@cornell.edu).
In order to keep the list relevant to stream research professionals, and also because we (CCE Ulster) have specific guidelines that we need to follow for our programs, we have two basic rules:
1. No political messages, particularly those that advocate for/campaign for particular candidates. CCE Ulster is publicly funded and we are not allowed to use our resources for political purposes. Postings that generally inform list members of new local/state/federal policies and programs, including upcoming bills and legislation would be appropriate. Postings that specifically encourage list members to vote a certain way or to call legislators etc, or postings for political fund raisers are not appropriate. If in doubt, e-mail Roxanne Churchill at rc60@cornell.edu.
2. The list is not to be used to advertise for businesses/services that are not related to stream research/stream management, particularly for-profit businesses. This list is not to be used as a forum to advertise your for-profit venture, especially if it has no relation to stream research. This rule is to help keep the list relevant to the majority of users. In addition, a number of corporations are now offering non-profit funding through a “voting” mechanism. This list is not to be used for postings that encourage people to vote for non-profit project applications sponsored by corporations. Once again, if in doubt about the appropriateness of your posting, e-mail Roxanne Churchill at rc60@cornell.edu.
Violation of either of these two policies is grounds for removal from the list!
